Winter season

One basketball campaign. Both programs.

Basketball runs long, indoors, and across two programs that too often fundraise separately and compete for the same families. Running one campaign for the girls and boys programs together doubles the roster doing the sharing, halves the number of asks a family receives, and makes the goal big enough to actually cover shootaround gear, tournament entries and holiday travel.

Season timing

When to run it

Winter practice typically opens in November. The useful window is late October, before the first tip-off and before the holidays start pulling attention away.

Why this sport is different

The specific things that shape a campaign here.

  • Two rosters, one ask

Families with kids in both programs get asked once instead of twice. That alone changes how a community responds to a fundraiser.

  • Built for a long season

Basketball seasons run into February. A short, front-loaded campaign beats a slow drip — we set a tight window so it finishes before the schedule gets heavy.

  • Home games are the megaphone

A packed gym twice a week is a distribution channel most programs never use. We plan the campaign around the home schedule.

What we would suggest

A starting plan. The details change once we see your calendar and your roster.

  • Combine girls and boys programs under one goal with separate leaderboards
  • Launch two weeks before the first home game
  • Use a home-game night as the midpoint push
  • Set the goal against a specific line item: tournament entry, travel, shooting shirts
  • Close the campaign before winter break rather than trying to run through it

Questions

Questions from these programs

Straight answers, including the ones without a comfortable number attached.

When is the best time in the season to fundraise?

Most groups do best starting shortly before their season begins, while attention is high and the schedule has not taken over yet. Season dates vary by sport and by state, so we plan the window around your actual calendar.

What keeps participants engaged after the first week?

MoneyDolly includes daily challenges, leaderboards and reward milestones. These give participants something specific to act on and make progress visible, which is usually what separates a campaign that keeps moving from one that goes quiet.

Can we see progress while the campaign is running?

Yes. Group leaders and participants can see real-time progress toward the goal, including participation and supporter activity, throughout the campaign.

Do we still have to handle cash and envelopes?

Supporters give digitally through the platform, so there is far less cash to collect, count and reconcile than in a traditional paper fundraiser.
